Homma Kancho’s 63rd birthday party was a grand event! Before his birthday, Homma Kancho had been working on the new Musubi Do area of the Nippon Kan gardens since April from morning till late in to the night. Concerned staff questioned his long hours, but Homma Kancho only replied “This is part of my training until my birthday.”

Homma Kancho managed to complete the final touches on the construction of the north area of the  Musubi Do on the morning of his birthday; about an hour before the festivities were to begin.  A priest from the Myanmar temple in Denver was invited to conduct a ceremony for the opening of the Musubi Do shrine and the ceremony was attended by Myanmar staff and guests and Nippon Kan students.

The ceremony was followed by a feast prepared by the Domo Myanmar staff. The foods were delicious, and all of the guests and students enjoyed spending time with Homma Kancho in celebration of his birthday.

The day after Homma Kancho’s birthday party, Homma Kancho began constructing the next section of the Musubi Do area to house a large Buddha statue from Thailand.
