Nippon KanCurrent Nepal Army Ranger Aikido Dojo

The Nepal Army Rangers, headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal, have adopted the practice of Nippon Kan Aikido as part of their daily training. Up to 60 elite Ranger officers train in Nippon Kan Aikido up to six hours a day under the supervision of Rajesh Bista Sensei and Instructor WO2 Dhan Gurung.

It is a currently a time of peace in Nepal and the focus of the Rangers readiness training has shifted to one of peace keeping and relationship building between the government, the military and civilian population. Incorporating Aikido training in this new focus has become a popular staple in basic training and is being developed throughout the Nepalese Army.

The Rangers have outgrown the current dojo built by Homma Kancho at Ranger Headquarters and plans are underway for the building of a new facility; The AHAN Nepal Training Center. This new training center will not only hold advanced Aikido training for the Nepal Army Rangers but serve as a bridge facility for outreach to the surrounding civilian community. Groundbreaking on this new project is scheduled for October 2013.
