Enshin Karate Branch Leaders Visit Nippon Kan

The
24th Annual Enshin Karate Sabaki Tournament was held in Denver April 26, 2003. From all
over Japan and the U.S., Enshin branch
dojo leaders came to Denver for this exciting
annual event. The day before the tournament, the Enshin
dojo-cho stopped by Nippon
Kan to pay their respects. All of them lived formerly in Denver and trained as
uchideshi students
under Enshin Kancho Joko Ninomiya Shihan. During their years of training here in Denver,
Homma Sensei often supported their efforts from the sidelines, offering advice and many
home cooked meals. As any
uchideshi will tell you, this kind of support can be
invaluable during the rigors of intense training. Now established in Japan and other
cities in the U.S., this new generation of leaders have their own
dojos, and their
own
uchideshi to train.

Enshin
Ninomiya Kancho and Nippon Kan Homma Kancho began their careers in Denver at about the
same time over twenty five years ago. In the early days, both instructors were newcomers
to the Denver Martial Art community and formed a bond that would last over a quarter
of a century as they struggled to build their own foundations. The front altar at the
Nippon Kan dojo and the Enshin dojo are formed from parts of the same ninety-foot ponderosa
pine tree, donated to Nippon Kan by a local tree surgeon company.
