Putting the Beds to Bed 10-18-2003
This year marked the thirteenth consecutive year Nippon Kan has “Put the Beds to Bed” at Civic Center Park. Located between the State Capitol and the City and County Building, Civic Center Park is a scenic point of interest for visitors to Denver. Every year the flower beds in Denver Parks are prepared for winter. Nippon Kan originated this project thirteen years ago in what now has become a city-wide project that is now organized by the Hands on Denver, a volunteer subsiderary of the Denver Parks and Recreation Department.
This year, volunteers were organized by Nippon Kan senior instructor Mary Powell. The event was well coordinated by Mary, and the flower beds were turned in record time. Once again our student volunteers earned our nickname with the Parks Department; “Nippon Kan Army”.
Among Nippon Kan volunteers this year, Sheileigh Olive attended her first “Beds to Bed” with her mother, Nippon Kan Instructor Tracy Olive. Mr. Heinz Schlue, Nippon Kan Senior advisor attended for his thirteenth year in the row.
Thank you again everyone for a job well done!
