AHAN Activities at Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin
By Charles Deiro Sensei
On
November 2nd, 2002, Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin in conjunction with the Milwaukee Urban League spent a day cutting trees and stacking wood to help clear land to make room for a neighborhood
playground. The playground will include enough equipment to accommodate a variety of age groups. This Urban League facility is currently a school for adult education and childcare for working
parents in the area. Organized by Charles Deiro Sensei, Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin students worked as part of AHAN, the Aikido Humanitarian Active Network, putting their training to good
use!
As a follow up Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin students also assisted St. Joseph’s Hospital and Covenent Health Group in a heath and wellness day for community residents. The event day curriculum
focused on alternative preventative life styles to encourage people to know themselves and take responsibility for their health. Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin’s presented ideas on healthy
breathing and extension and healthy attitudes towards harmonizing with our fellow man through Aikido movements. When asked to evaluate the presentation, Aikido Nippon Kan Wisconsin received
the highest score of 85% satisfaction by attending spectators and other presenters.
